In August 2023, Águas da Imperatriz won the concession for water supply and sewage treatment services in Teresópolis. The Group arrives in the “City of Teresa” – a tribute to Empress Teresa Cristina, wife of D. Pedro II, with around 165.000 people -, with the purpose to universalize the distribution of treated water for the entire population, in addition to collection and sewage treatment for 90% of the municipality. The investment for the 25 year concession is around BRL 480 million in infrastructure for the construction of sewage systems, treatment stations, pumping stations and biodigesters.

Teresópolis is one of the main tourist cities in the state, but since its foundation in 1891, it has not had a sewage collection and treatment system. With the start of operations in the city, the Group expands its operations in Rio de Janeiro with an offer of BRL 306.2 million.
One of the main benefits expected for the city is: the rapid increase in the city’s HDI translated into a better quality of life for the entire population; the significant reduction in hospital visits caused by water-borne diseases and hygiene problems; the significant and progressive increase in municipal revenue through (ICMS Verde) due to the treatment of collected effluents; the generation of 300 direct jobs and 500 indirect jobs through the hiring of employees and local companies to supply inputs and provide services. In addition to all these benefits, all assets that will be implemented throughout the contract will revert to the city at the end of the concession period.

  • Start of Concession: August 25th, 2023
  • Municipality: Teresópolis, RJ
  • Population: 165.000
